THE STORY BEHIND THE SONG
Here's another song that was inspired by a line from a movie: Matthew Broderick in "Addicted to Love." He was pointing to a video he took of his girlfriend kissing another guy, and said, "Hey! that was MY kiss!" That line was swirling around in my head, and one day while I was driving somewhere, I started singing a melody to it and rhyming words with "kiss." I detoured home to get it on tape so I wouldn't lose it. I got the chorus pretty quickly, except for "it's true I don't own you, but I can tell you this..." which I needed for my final rhyme with "kiss." I then had to concentrate on making verses that would lead up to me demanding my kiss back. It was a lot of fun to write and it's my most popular song at concerts because it's easy to catch quickly and sing along to.
